Wine Country Estate

Set atop the Mayacamas Mountain range, this estate embodies the best of Wine Country. My clients saw the potential in this property. Nestled in Alexander Valley, their Cabernet Vineyards produce small batches each year. They wanted to integrate resilience, natural beauty and simplicity into their grounds.

We used our modern meadow plantings alongside clean white tile and gravel. Throughout the year there is something blooming, catching the breeze. Additionally we have planted 3 years of seasonal produce in the new vegetable garden in raised wooden beds. Tailoring the heirloom varieties to the clients fresh cooking needs.

From the Ground Up helps to guide and oversee the construction projects like this one. Phasing the project in over time to adapt to the remodel of the home.

CHALKHILL VINEYARDS

One of the best features of this property is that it is surrounded by natural beauty and vineyards. In the fall the grasses (Pennisetum oriental and Muhlenbergia rigens) catch the wind. The dogwood trees turn a bright red and orange along with the surrounding grapes.

HEIRLOOM MINI FARM

We create and plant seasonal vegetables and fruits to ensure our clients have fresh produce year around. Our goal is to have fresh snack foods and salad mix year around with some root vegetables like carrots and radishes. A large raspberry and blueberry patches were planned with early, mid-season and late producing varieties.

REFRESHING PLANTINGS

One of the main things our clients wanted to update was the plantings on the property. It was clear it had been planted in the early 90’s and what had survived was woody and struggling. After getting clear on the clients personal preferences, style and desires we picked a meadow planting palette with grasses, perennials and privacy screening.

GARDEN REDESIGN

We upgrade the vegetable garden to accomodate more planters. Each planter is equipped with gopher wire and an irrigation shut off incase that bed isn’t planted for a short time. The client preferred to have ARTERRA® PORCELAIN PAVERS paths, as they don’t like the look or feel of mulch and gravel. Tucked between the tiles are Dymondia margaretae, Thymus and Origanum.
