Contemporary Oasis
A well kept secret, this hotel here in wine country is a great getaway destination. We wanted to bring the best of the our California style to the landscape here. Creating a beautiful backdrop to an unforgettable destination.
Olea Hotel, gets it name from the latin for Olive. We leaned into the Mediterranean theme, adding olive trees throughout with clean contemporary brand based plantings zones. We have our upper woodland terrace and then the lower contemporary gardens.
The goal of this project was to rebuild after the 2017 wildfires destroyed half of the property. We revitalized the areas that survived and designed spaces for guests that creates a unique and stunning vacation destination.
Location: Glen Ellen, CA
Installed by: Olea Hotel’s Horticulture Team
SOUND WALL RE-IMAGINED
A key piece of this design was to create a new barrier between busy Warm Springs Road and the tranquil spa area of the hotel. We used layers of screening and sound proofing to achieve this. To the left is a sound wall, softened by vines and a trellis. To the right is new Olive trees and a new fence to bring back the privacy that was there prior to the fires.
FOREST WALKWAY
A key feature of the landscape is the native oaks. We helped to revitalize areas that had been spared from the fire but needed to connect seamlessly with the new construction. We simplified our palette of plants to create a landscape that is elegant and inviting year around.
FROM THE ASHES
This is one of many of our post 2017 wildfire projects. The whole lower section of the property was lost to the fires and had to be rebuilt. As of mid 2019 we are almost completely finished installing the new landscape. The owners have been incredibly resilient in the face of such a large undertaking. It is an honor to have been part of a much larger team who help rebuild this beautiful hotel.
